What Is Age of War?
Age of War is a real-time strategy game where you evolve a civilization from the Stone Age through the present, defending your base while attacking the enemy's. Deploy units, manage resources, and unlock increasingly powerful technologies across five ages.
How to Play
Click the unit buttons on the left to spawn fighters. They automatically march toward the enemy base. Earn XP by killing enemies — fill the bar to evolve to the next age and unlock stronger units and turrets. Click turrets on your base to fire them manually for extra damage.
Controls
- Left Click — spawn units, fire turrets
- Unit Buttons — select which unit to deploy
Tips
Evolve to the next age as fast as possible — higher-age units counter lower-age enemies easily. Spend gold on the best single unit type rather than spreading resources; overwhelming one strong unit beats mixed cheap units.
How Age Transitions Work
Each "age" — Stone, Castle, Renaissance, Modern, and information-era Beyond — replaces your unit roster and turret set with new options. Transitions take about 8 seconds, during which your units pause spawning but your base regains a small chunk of HP. XP earned from kills accelerates each age transition; some transitions cost far more XP than others, so pacing matters. Once you reach the Modern age, you can recruit jets and missile launchers that devastate lower-tier enemies and turrets.
Turrets have separate XP bars — they level up by killing enemies and stack with global level-up bonuses. A maxed Stone-Age turret is still weak compared to an unleveled Modern-Age turret, so prioritising age-up ahead of turret level-up is the standard rule.
Strategy
Don't over-spread on units. Pick your best-in-tier unit and mass-spawn it. Mixed cheap units lose to single-type swarms.
Use turrets against air units. Flier units bypass your ground defense and hit your base directly. Save heavy air-unit kills for your turrets.
Rush when the enemy is age-transitioning. An 8-second lull in their spawns is your window to push hard.
FAQ
- Q: How long is one match in Age of War?
- A: A typical match lasts 10-15 minutes depending on how aggressive both players are.
- Q: Can I undo an age transition?
- A: No — ages are one-way progressions. Plan ahead.
- Q: Is there a level cap?
- A: Each unit type caps at a specific tier; mass-spawning lower-tier units doesn't progress you past the cap.
- Q: Does the AI ever age up?
- A: Yes — the AI evolves on its own XP curve and reaches Modern age around the same time as a typical player.

Reading the Enemy's Tech Curve
The AI does not just mass units — it runs a parallel tech curve that approximately matches yours. If you delay your Modern-age upgrade, the enemy will likely hit Modern age around the same moment, and you'll end up in a costly arms race. Speed is the deciding factor: every second of delay translates to more enemy units on the field when you finally evolve. Players who learn to age-up aggressively typically win against AI matched at the same difficulty tier.
Air units bypass ground defenses and head straight for your base. If you see the enemy spamming helicopters or jets, drop a heavy turret upgrade and prioritize your own air units for the next spawn cycle. Winning the air war shifts the tactical balance — ground armies become supplementary rather than primary. Gold is finite per match; spend it on best-in-tier units rather than spreading across every unit panel button. A single fully upgraded unit counters three mixed-weakness units every time, and concentration lets your turret DPS stack cleanly on the highest-value threats.
Extra FAQ
- Q: Can I pause mid-match?
- A: Yes — most builds have a pause button. Pause is helpful for planning long-term unit compositions.
- Q: Does the enemy ever panic-spam units?
- A: Sometimes — when the AI is behind, it throws units at your base in desperation. Pre-position your turrets for that moment.
