How Slither.io Works
Slither.io is a massively multiplayer online snake game played in a single shared arena with potentially hundreds of players visible at once. Every player controls a glowing worm-like snake that constantly moves forward. To change direction, simply move your cursor (or finger on mobile) — your snake smoothly follows that point. The arena is filled with glowing colored orbs; when your snake's head touches an orb, your snake grows longer by a small amount, and the orb disappears. Other snakes are constantly doing the same, and they all share the same orbs.
The unique twist that defines Slither.io is the boost mechanic. By clicking the mouse (or tapping on mobile), your snake uses a brief burst of speed and leaves a trail of small orbs behind it. Boosting is the only way to actively attack another snake. The classic move is to boost your head at an angle that intersects another snake's body — when your head crosses another snake's body, that snake dies and drops all of its mass as orbs. Surviving snakes can then rush in and eat those orbs to grow dramatically.
Strategy Tips for Slither.io
Don't boost unless you mean it. Each boost costs you mass proportional to how long you hold it. Long, undisciplined boosts shrink you while moving you predictably — perfect prey for a predator. Use short bursts to cut off an enemy's path, not to chase them.
Cut off, don't chase. When another snake is fleeing, position your head at the angle they'll need to turn into and they'll run straight into you. This is called cutting off and costs zero mass.
Coil near high-density orb patches. Large clusters of orbs attract many snakes. If you hover just outside a busy patch, you can pick off careless snakes who tunnel in for big orbs.
Stay near the edges early. New players are safest in less crowded zones near the map edges. As you grow longer and more confident, drift toward the centre for the highest rewards.
FAQ
- Q: Is Slither.io free to play?
- A: Yes — Slither.io is fully free and unblocked on Poki2. There are no in-app purchases needed to compete or progress.
- Q: Can I play Slither.io with friends?
- A: Yes. After loading the game, share your party link with friends to join your server. Or type the same server name at the main menu to land in the same arena.
- Q: How do I become the largest snake on the server?
- A: Focus on cutting-off kills instead of chasing. Don't boost unless an opponent has nowhere else to go. Top players end games near the high-density centre, picking off overconfident speed-boosters.
- Q: Does Slither.io have bots?
- A: Some servers mix a small number of computer-controlled snakes to fill empty space when player counts are low. They behave predictably and are great for practising cut-off techniques.
