What Is Arcade Tennis?

Arcade Tennis is a fast-paced 2D tennis game where you control a quirky player on a compact court. Time your swings, direct your shots with angle, and outlast your opponent in rally-based matches.

How to Play

Move your player with A/D or arrow keys. Press the attack button when the ball is in range to swing. The angle of your swing determines shot direction — aim cross-court to keep your opponent off balance. Win games to progress through the tournament bracket.

Controls

  • A / D or ← → — move player
  • Spacebar or Z — swing

Tips

Watch the ball arc, not your player — react earlier. Hitting near the edges of your racket generates angled shots that are harder to reach. Mix deep baseline shots with drop shots to move your opponent around the court.

Match Structure

Arcade Tennis pits you against AI opponents across multiple tournament tiers. Each tournament consists of 5–8 opponents, each with progressively stronger shot precision and reaction speed. Winning a tournament unlocks the next tier and grants a cosmetic racket upgrade (which has no gameplay effect, just visual flair).

Scoring follows real tennis rules: 15, 30, 40, game — and you must win by two clear points from deuce. Games roll up into sets, and a match is best of three sets. The first player to win two sets advances.

Stamina and Positioning

Your player has a stamina bar that depletes with explosive movements and recovers slowly while idle. Running flat-out across the full court drains stamina fast; standing still recovers it. Smart players pace their movement, sprinting only when a return demands it.

Anticipate the return. Watch the opponent's swing direction — the angle of their racket at contact predicts the shot trajectory 80% of the time.

Use the lob against net rushers. If the AI rushes the net, a high lob drops the ball just past their reach for an easy point.

Stay centred. Sprinting to one corner opens the entire opposite court to a passing shot. Most pros recover to centre after every return.

Tips for Late Tournaments

The hardest AI plays percentage tennis — they vary shot speed, mix lobs and dropshots, and rarely make unforced errors. To beat them, you have to be patient, build points, and aim aggressively only when you see an open court.

Don't overhit. Against the top AI, a 70% shot to a good location beats an 100% shot to a risky one. They will punish anything short.

Exploit their backhand. Most AI characters have a slightly weaker backhand return. Aim cross-court to their backhand repeatedly.
