What Is Basketball Stars?
Basketball Stars is a 1v1 street basketball game developed by Miniclip. It pits two players against each other in skill-based head-to-head matches where dribbling, faking, and precise shooting matter more than any random element. You can play against AI opponents or a live opponent using two-player mode on the same keyboard — making it a great couch-versus game. The fast match length (roughly two minutes) makes it perfect for quick sessions.
How to Play Basketball Stars
You control a single player. Your objective is to outscore your opponent before the clock runs out. The player with the ball can dribble, perform dribble tricks to confuse the defender, and shoot from anywhere on the court. Defenders can attempt a steal by timing a lunge at the ball. Shooting requires holding the shoot button to charge the shot — release at the right power for the best chance of scoring.
Controls (1 Player)
- Left / Right Arrow — move
- Up Arrow — jump
- Z — shoot (hold to charge) / defend (steal)
- X — dribble trick / pump fake
Controls (2 Player — Player 2)
- A / D — move
- W — jump
- B — shoot / defend
- V — dribble trick
Tips for Winning
Master the pump fake. Press the dribble trick button while stationary near the basket to execute a pump fake. AI opponents and inexperienced human players will jump at it — drive past them for an easy layup after they commit.
Charge your shots fully. A fully charged shot has significantly higher accuracy than a rushed release. When you have space, always hold the shoot button until the gauge peaks.
Use speed to create open looks. The court in Basketball Stars is small, so fast movement from side to side can force the defender to mis-position. One quick direction change often creates the gap needed for a clean shot.
Time steals carefully. A failed steal attempt leaves you flat-footed and gives the attacker a clear path. Only attempt steals when the gap is less than half a player-width.
Why Basketball Stars Is Fun for Everyone
Basketball Stars distills real basketball to its essential duel: one-on-one, skill versus skill, with just enough chaos from the physics engine to keep results interesting. The 2-player mode on a single keyboard is one of its best features — sharing a keyboard with a friend makes it a competitive party game that works instantly in any browser.
